Welcome back to another #CSIPlus Meet the Member Interview! Today we are joined by Nigel Chubb, Marine Sales Manager at Ockwells Marine Temporary Site Protection!

What do you do at your company, and in what circumstances would I come to you for something?
“I am the Marine Sales Manager and my role is to create an awareness of our company worldwide, identify new opportunities, connect with decision makers, providing solutions and building solid trading relationships. When a ship owner or an outfitter needs to protect their works either external or internal onboard after installation Ockwells Marine can provide you with the certified temporary protection materials to do this.”

What’s the biggest misconception people have about your position?
“People not having full trust in sales people and the belief in what is being introduced to them.”

Does your company have any upcoming projects that you can talk about?
“We always have exciting projects on our radar throughout the year and continually look at forthcoming drydocking/new build schedules.”

What has been your favourite project to work on? Cruise work preferred!
“The Aroya in 2023, when purchased by Cruise Saudi, previously called World Dream. A project with one of the largest supply of our products to many of our clients during the conversion over a reasonable period of time.”

What behaviour or personality trait do you most attribute your success to, and why?
“Being upfront and honest from the outset when making introductions to new clients, understanding their needs, being flexible in my approach, and importantly responding quickly and being able to deliver in what we say, having the utmost confidence in the products we supply.”

Could you share the most significant obstacle you have faced in your career so far, particularly in cruise work? Or, have you ever encountered any problems in cruise work that required you to learn a new skillset?
“Temporary Protection is generally the last thing that outfitters think of, and this occasionally leads to very tight delivery schedules to European Ports, but the skill learnt over the years is to react quickly and communicate with our logistics suppliers to meet these timelines.”

What inspired you to pursue this field of work?
“In my early years, I lived in Southampton so constantly saw all types of vessels on the water and when entering the sales marketplace my passion for marine certainly had an influence on me getting involved in this sector.”

What’s one thing most people don’t know about you?
“I can speak French to a reasonable and understanding level since my school days. I’ve always been involved in the playing and leadership side of a few sports teams over many years so being around people forming relationships is a definite requirement in the sales industry which is where my confidence comes from.”

What are the most significant changes you have seen in the Cruise Interior sector since you started, and what emerging trends do you foresee shaping its future?
“The continual increase by ship owners of constructing bigger ships than the previous one and an increase of specialised areas onboard for both adults and introduction of kids zones which I’m sure will continue to make a cruise a lasting memory enticing people to go back.”

Do you have a fun-fact or piece of advice about your company/industry that you can share?
“Ockwells was a family business which originated out of a barn and has now developed with four offices spread around the UK.”

Do you specialise in a particular type of product? What makes it different to competitors?
“We provide certified temporary protection materials for all types of interior and exterior finishes including decking, carpeted and hard floor areas, bulkheads, furniture and fittings. Our business has an experienced procurement team who can outsource the bespoke product requests from clients that are outside of our product range.”

If you could recommend only one of your products, what would it be?
“Our Wheelmarked Self Adhesive Carpet Protection Films are widely recognised with 1,236,170m2 supplied to the marine sector in 2025, enough to cover 186 football pitches.”

What kind of questions do you ask before beginning a project, and which piece of information is of utmost value in planning a successful project?
“The important questions being, What needs to be protected, the conditions in that area, eg. heavy foot traffic if it’s material to protect a floor. How long will the product be in place for? When is the material required? Is it for a project secured or a tender?”

What role does sustainability play in your company? How do you incorporate environmentally friendly practices and materials?
“Ockwells Marine cares deeply about our role in protecting the environment, decarbonising our operations, and driving a positive impact in the markets we operate in. As part of SIG PLC., over recent years we’ve made substantial progress in our sustainability credentials, further details of these activities are available on request.”

What goals have you met so far in 2026? Or, what goals/milestones are you working to meet this year?
“A continuation from the excellent results achieved in 2025 that we’re already seeing rolling into 2026 with the goal being the continual expansion of Ockwells Marine presence and to build further partnerships worldwide.”
